Why doesn’t a magnet stick to the micro-mesh if it is stainless steel?

Type 304 is considered austenitic stainless steel, which is generally regarded as non-magnetic in the annealed condition, having higher chromium content. Nickel is also added to keep the stainless steel from cracking.
